Double interior doors combine two leaves within one opening. The active leaf, meeting detail and hardware arrangement should be defined room by room rather than described only as a pair of doors.
What to resolve before choosing a design
| Decision | Information to confirm |
|---|---|
| Active leaf | Identify the primary access leaf and its required clear passage. |
| Meeting detail | Agree the gap, rebate, latch and any secondary restraint. |
| Surface matching | Coordinate grain direction and finish samples across both leaves. |
Configuration and material choices
Where a project asks for an acoustic or fire rating, request documentation for the complete double-leaf assembly. A single-leaf report should not be assumed to apply.
Record frame material, leaf or panel construction, visible surface, glazing and hardware as separate specification fields. This prevents a finish name from being mistaken for the underlying construction. Each alternative should be checked against the same opening and intended use.
Agree how both interior leaves will be used
Define whether both leaves need regular operation or one serves mainly as an occasional wider opening. This affects the hardware, meeting detail and the way the room is used. Mark clear passage, swing arcs and nearby circulation on the plan. Show the relationship with furniture and adjacent doors when both leaves are fully open.
Coordinate the meeting edges, finish direction and hardware positions across the pair. For rooms with a repeated design, decide whether the leaf proportions remain equal or vary with the opening. Confirm the frame, leaf cores, decorative surfaces and seals separately in the schedule. Ask for the fixing and finishing responsibilities around the complete frame and identify any hardware supplied by the local contractor.
Evidence and installation boundaries
Specification limits, material availability and performance documentation are subject to technical review. A material or component report is not automatically evidence for the complete door or window assembly. Tell us about the project requirements early so the applicable configuration can be assessed.
Installation must follow the agreed drawings and the actual product instructions, with responsibilities assigned to competent people. This collection is a selection resource, not a substitute for a product-specific installation manual.

Before you specify
Questions worth asking
Can the size and finish be customized?
Share the opening dimensions, intended use and preferred finish. Feasibility, material availability and the final configuration are subject to technical review; no universal size range is assumed.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send a marked drawing or door schedule, project country, quantity, installation context and any specified performance requirements. Identify which hardware and glazing you need included.
Are the images confirmed product specifications?
The images illustrate design and finish options. Your written quotation, approved drawings and material samples define the final configuration and supply scope.
