Powder-Coated Door Finishes

Select a powder-coated door finish through color and texture samples, substrate preparation, exposure review and order-specific care information.

Powder coating is one possible finish system for architectural metal doors and frames. A complete selection includes the substrate, preparation, coating product, application requirements and approved appearance. A color code on its own leaves important parts of the specification unresolved.

Agree the visible finish

Compare color, texture and gloss together. A smooth low-gloss sample and a textured sample can look different under the same lighting, even when described by the same color reference. Review visible frames, leaves, panels, trims and hardware separately where their finishes are supplied through different processes.

Use a physical sample when appearance is critical and record its approval reference. For coordinated entrance and garage doors, review the proposed samples side by side rather than assuming that one shared color name guarantees a perfect match.

Ask about the complete coating system

Topic Information needed
Substrate Actual material and relevant surface condition
Preparation Proposed cleaning and pretreatment process
Coating Identified finish system and applicable product information
Details Treatment of edges, joints and areas affected by fabrication
Inspection Agreed appearance and coating checks for the order

Specific process values and performance statements must come from the relevant supplier documentation. They should not be inferred from a generic description of powder coating or from a competitor’s finish specification.

Describe the exposure and maintenance conditions

State whether the door is sheltered or exposed, near the coast, in persistent moisture or subject to particular cleaning conditions. Ask for a review of the proposed coating against those conditions and for the applicable care information.

Finished metal still needs suitable handling and maintenance. Damage during transport or installation, incompatible cleaners and untreated scratches can affect the surface. Do not treat a finish choice as an unconditional corrosion guarantee.

Keep approval and care information with the order

Record the approved sample, color reference, texture, gloss and any accepted variation. If repeat orders are expected, retain a physical reference and discuss batch matching before placing the next order. Check the agreed approach to inspection and reporting visible finish issues at receipt.

For material context, read about aluminum or steel door construction. Send the project country, exposure, preferred color and product system through Request a Quote. The final coating proposal and any associated warranty terms must be confirmed for that order.
